Island Rd Back Garden

It was simple; our clients wanted a new patio. The result: an additional living and entertaining space. A twist on the surface material was a “terrazzo” finish. Polishing the exposed aggregate brings out the multi colored stone in the concrete mix, leaving a surface that is comfortable under foot and appealing to the eye. To give this space a private and quiet feel, a water feature, (with a trickle flow disappearing into a small opening in the patio) was designed. The hearth-like feel really warms the space up, while a natural stone gas fire pit brings the real heat to this “hot property”.

A natural slate surface takes you around to the BBQ area, passing two custom designed aluminum “window boxes”, planted as herb gardens. This BBQ area has custom designed seating constructed of metal and wood that wrap around the curved slate patio. In an effort to not encroach on the small space the benches were designed to be supported with brackets that hung slightly off the edge of this slate patio.
